• The tough challenge is to get
noticed by golf coaches from the US. The RCGA has started
a golf scholarship program
with some Canadian Universities. Check out RCGA’s
website, http://www.rcga.org. Most opportunities though
are with the US Universities.
• Build up your resume and exposure by playing in
tournaments during the summer in the US.
• The NCAA allows you to visit up to 5 different
universities all expenses paid to assess which College
program you want
to pursue.
• Choose a college program that not only fits your
pocketbook but also will offer you the opportunity to play
a lot of
golf.
• Strive to get on the team for as many tournaments
as possible. The exposure to top level amateur golfers
will be invaluable
for your game.
• Soak up the team-work and camaraderie. They are
golden years in which you may be forming relationships
that last
a lifetime.
• Enjoy the journey and don’t sweat the results
too much. Keep in mind that you are getting better and
better
every day, getting great experience for dealing with life
and having an opportunity that few do. It’s the long
view that counts.
• Your last year of college golf and summer of amateur
golf are important for recognition by sponsors for a pro
career.
Make your last year and summer your best.
